Trip Overview

The Kendjam area is located in the most incredible and virgin Indigenous Territory in Brazilian Amazon: the Mekragnoti Indigenous Territory, in Kayapato land.
It is a multi variety amazon fly-fishing destination where an angler can target over 8 different species in crystal clear fast waters. The river runs over a huge granite base, which allows an easy wet wading and many sight casting opportunities. Anglers will see fish sipping and rolling on surface like trout. Species such as Pacu, Matrinxas (2-8lbs), Curupete Pacu (3-12lbs), Tucanare peacock bass (3- 15lbs) , the fast powerful barracuda-like freshwater predator, Bicudas that once hooked will burn your fingers in a second and many more... Trairao which can reach the 25 pounds and the mysterious Payara that hasn't been fished much yet.

The Iriri River is almost entirely located inside the Mekragnoti far-reaching Indian Territory and an Ecological Reserve (ESEC Terra do Meio). This untouched environment has more than 800 kilometers of rivers, and three major tributaries inside the new and exclusive operation area.

The dry season is, the time when waters are at their lowest average levels and very clear, allowing great fishing throughout the entire river system, including its numerous tributaries. Kendjam will operate during the best months of the low crystal clear water season which runs from early July to late September.

Package

The maximum group size is only 6 anglers, and no groups will ever fish the same water on the same day. The concept is to move every day and every week or downstream with aluminum boats finding places to wet wading and explore new waters following the best fishing, so everyone is constantly casting at fresh fish, in near virgin waters.

The itinerary is as follwoing:
Day 0: Arrival to Manaus airport. Transfer to 5* Hotel.
Day 1: Early departure to local airport for chartwer flight to Kendjam, approximately 3 hours. Upon arrival, meet and great the staff and guides, a will immediately get lunch redy for the 3/4 hours boat trip to the lodge. It’s a great trip to the lodge where anglers will see great river scenery, birds, animals (with luck some Jaguar) and obviosully lots of fish in the Iriri clear waters. During the evening the staff will explain the fishing week dynamics.
Day 2 to 7: Full fishing days starting at 8am, stopping at 12pm for a picnic on the river and fishing until 5pm. Upon arrival back to the lodge a cocktail with appetizers will be served before dinner at 7.30 pm.
Day 8: Return to Manaus.

Fishing report

August 2019

Great fishing week during mid August, with a huge Payara landed. The Matrinxa were also very active with some great dry fly action. The river was crystal clear and low, with temperatures around 25º. Warm weather and sunny days mostly.
Great surface action and the water was perfect for wading.
