PROGRAMA: Los Roques , Venezuela

» Reseña:
Los Roques esta situado a 85 millas mar afuera de Caracas, solo bastan 35 a 40 minutos de vuelo para llegar a Gran Roque, la isla mas importante del archipiélago, centro de la vida activa de lugareños y visitantes. Unas 42 islas y 250 bancos de arena y arrecifes conforman este magnífico lugar donde el color de sus aguas, una mezcla de azul, verde y turquesas, lo dejan a uno maravillado. La población en Los Roques no supera las 2,000 personas que viven de la pesca y el turismo. La villa es muy simpática con típico aire caribeño, las casas de los pescadores, muchas de ellas recicladas y pintadas con llamativos colores, son parte del paisaje. La diversidad de extranjeros mezclándose con los pobladores locales le dan a la misma un carácter muy particular y divertido.
Hace mas de 30 años Los Roques fue declarado Parque Natural para proteger la fauna y flora del lugar. El centro del archipiélago es una laguna central que abarca unos 400 km2, en la misma se encuentran mas de 290 islas, islotes y sedimentos calcareos de formación coralina y arenas muy blancas. Los Roques es un destino buscado por buceadores y pescadores de todo el mundo por la riqueza marina que guardan sus aguas.
La estrella en Los Roques es el "bonefish" que se lo encuentra en grandes cantidades y tamaños considerables (de 4 a 10 libras). Es el destino caribeño por excelencia para pescar grandes "bonefish" en casi todo el archipiélago. En Los Roques también se encuentran tarpones, palometas y jacks con bastante facilidad durante todo el año, pero de noviembre a febrero se pueden ver grandes escuelas de tarpones de entre 40 y 150 libras.

» Programa:
La operación de pesca en Los Roques la realizamos con experimentados guías locales bajo la supervisión de un jefe de guías con más de 20 años guiando en la zona. Se cuenta con 4 amplias embarcaciones de 30 pies con motor fuera de borda de 75 HP a 90 HP, y con la asistencia de un capitán por embarcación. Si bien la pesca se realiza en jornadas de 8 horas, el horario de partida se hace por la mañana pero puede variar dependiendo exclusivamente de las mareas.
Nuestros paquetes pueden ser exclusivamente de pesca ó incluir el traslado aéreo Caracas/Los Roques/Caracas, asistencia en el aeropuerto de Los Roques y el alojamiento en alguna de las Posadas locales con desayuno, lunch y cena.
En Gran Roque hay una abundante oferta de Posadas, muchas de ellas son antiguas casas de pescadores recicladas que en general tienen capacidad para 6 ú 8 huéspedes. Todas ellas ofrecen paquetes con desayuno, lunch y cena. Los precios de las Posadas varían entre los U$S 40.- y U$S 250.- por día/persona y nosotros operamos con un rango de tarifas de entre U$S 130.- y 190.- por día/persona en base doble. Las Posadas que recomendamos están localizadas frente al mar o muy próximas, para facilitar a nuestros clientes el acceso a las embarcaciones y desembarco luego de la jornada de pesca.
En el paquete podemos incluir una o dos noches en el Hotel EUROBUILDING EXPRESS frente al aeropuerto de Caracas, y un transfer seguro desde el aeropuerto al hotel y viceversa.
Para grupos de 4 a 6 pasajeros disponemos de vuelos charter. Esta es una opcion muy conveniente por tres razones principales: se puede coordinar el vuelo a cualquier hora del día (desde las 8 am hasta las 5 pm), se permite transportar mas peso que en las aeronaves de linea cuyo límite es de 10 kilos por pax, y el costo por pasajero es similar al que se paga en los vuelos regulares. El avion es un Cessna 402 Bimotor.

» Equipos:
Sugerimos un equipo#8 Wt para los bonefish y otro #10 Wt para los tarpones, jacks y palometas. Reeles con buen sistema de freno y 200 a 250 yardas de backing de 20 libras. Línea de flote WF para los bonefish, permit y tarpon, y recomendamos una línea complementaria Intermediate para los tarpones. Para los bonefish y permit recomendamos leaders sin nudos de 12 pies y shock tippet de 12 libras fluorocarbono; para los tarpones recomendamos "bimini twist" de 16 a 20 libras y shock tippet de monofilamento (hard) de 50 ó 60 libras de resistencia. O bien un shock tippet de metro y medio de 60 libras con un pequeño but de 35 libras y unos 15 cm.
Las moscas para los bonefish deben ser livianas y preferiblemente con protección del anzuelo para evitar enganches, los modelos que más rinden son los Clouser Minow, Crazy Charlie , Gotcha, Bonefish Special y pequeños cangrejos en anzuelos # 4 ó # 6 en colores arena, marrón claro y ocre, todos con poco peso. Los "Gummy Minnows" son muy buenos para pescar desde la playa o bien cuando la marea esta alta. Los cangrejos para las palometas en modelos Rag Head Crab; Brown Special, Velcro Crab y Merkin atados en amzuelo # 2 y # 4. Para los tarpones y robalos los modelos de las moscas pueden ser streamers, deceives y seaducers en anzuelos # 1/0 colores marrón con naranja, negro y amarillo, naranja y amarillo, oliva y blanco, Black Death y Purple Death. Los "Gummy Minnow" son las moscas mas efectivas para la pesca de tarpones frente a la isla Gran Roque.

» Información adicional:
Aunque la pesca es muy buena durante todo el año, cada estación tiene sus pros y contras. Marzo/abril/mayo y junio son muy buenos para la pesca pero meses muy requeridos, Julio y agosto son meses muy buscados por los turistas europeos y las Posadas están a full. Septiembre y octubre son meses con poco turismo, muy tranquilos, y de muy buena pesca. Noviembre y diciembre son meses lluviosos y en enero comienza nuevamente la demanda de europeos y americanos. Las temperatura es cálida todo el año y varía desde los 33ºC en verano (junio/julio y agosto) a los 23ºC en los meses de invierno (diciembre/enero y febrero), nunca hace frío. La pesca de bonefish y palometa se realiza vadeando, por lo tanto recomendamos viajar con botas de vadeo (neoprene), ropa liviana, sombrero con buena protección, anteojos polarizados, protección solar 40 SPF (o mayor) y una buena selección de moscas.

Muchsas gracias por tus esfuerzos. Cinco de nuestro grupo tuvieron problemas con sus vuelos internacionales y llegaron tarde, tu has manejado esa situacion muy bien para que ellos no pierdan medio día de pesca el día de su llegada. Todos los programas de pesca en el mar dependen de las condiciones del tiempo y nosotros tuvimos la suerte de tener unos 5 dias increibles. Los 12 que integraban nuestro grupo pescaron numerosos bonefish, se clavo un tarpon y tuvimos excelentes oportunidades con los permit. La accion de las barracudas fue super, y pescamos snapper y jacks muy bien. El servicio y atencion en la Posada fue excelente. La cocina a base de vegetales y pescado fresco fue la mejor que hemos probado en el Caribe. Sobre todo este viaje fue de esos que hacen que uno quiera volver a realizar uno igual nuevamente. » Los Roques, the trip lived up to all my expectations by: Diego Castro - July 9, 2009 Daniel, Te cuento que todo resulto muy bien, cubrio mis expectativas perfectamente y podria decirte que mas tambien. Los servicios de la posada, absolutamente perfectos, la atencion y la comida de diez, las instalaciones muy bien, en fin todo. La pesca de bonefish fue excelente y es todo lo que cuentan el sentir la sensacion de las corridas de esa especie. Me diverti mucho y aprendi tambien, Felipe es muy cordial y no ahorro en explicaciones sobre todo lo que le pregunte (yo soy bastante pregunton....) Con respecto a la pesca del tarpon, que te puedo decir........increible......porque realmente no lo puedo creer que haya pescado semejantes tamaños. En los 5 dias que sali con Felipe, tuve piques, cortes de leader, anzuelos doblados, y pude levantar 4, uno mas lindo y mas peleador que el otro. El ultimo dia obtuve 2 de esos cuatro, uno a la mañana y otro a la tarde....como te dije: no lo puedo creer... Los equipos funcionaron perfecto, y aunque anduve un poco corto de moscas en cuanto a tamaños en 6 y 8 le buscamos la vuelta y pude pescar sin problemas. Sobre el lugar, que puedo decir yo que ya no sepas; un paraiso, o por lo menos una pedazo del paraiso. Desde ya te agradezco por todos tus servicios, y tambien por la ayuda con el problema de ultimo momento con el pasaje de aerolineas, mil gracias. Salio todo de maravillas. Felipe fue uno de los mejores guias que hemos tenido para pescar bonefish, con mucho conocimiento y agradable compañia. El tiempo estuvo muy ventoso, con rafagas de hasta mas de 30 millas/hora, y nublado, no obstante hemos disfrutado la pesca igualmente. Con Juan y Josefina nos hemos sentido como huespedes de honor en su casa. Gran servicio y la comida fue muy buena también. Aun no sabemos cuando regresaremos a Los Roques, tal vez el año próximo. » Los Roques. The week was excellent in every sense !!!! by: Juan Dumas - May 16th, 2008 Daniel, La semana fue excelente en todo sentido. El grupo muy armónico y la pesca más que aceptable (con particular lucimiento de las damas). El ritmo era intenso, nos levantábamos a las 6 hs y a las 7 hs estábamos en el bote dirigiéndonos a los flats. Pescamos vadeando, no embarcados. Había una breve interrupción para el picnic y finalizábamos a las 15.30 hs. Después cada uno podía usar el resto del día como quisiera haciendo buceo, recorriendo la isla, o, nada. El viaje, desde el punto de vista pesquero, terminó con un batacazo de Ronny Bothlingk quien sacó un tarpón de no menos de 60 kgs. Consenso general de que este es un programa que deberá repetirse cuantas veces se pueda. Lo único deprimente es que uno acaba de regresar y eso es cuando más tiempo falta para volver. Juan Dumas

This review is one big thankyou to Daniel and all is team! by: John Maloney - November 06th, 2007 this review is one big thankyou to Daniel and all is team! los roques jump in and enjoy if your reading this review your probably doing what we were doing last year ,scannng the internet looking for a saltwater fly fishing holiday at a competitive price thats were we came across flyfishingcaribe. if like us your a bit rusty or just novices and are not sure about taking the plunge, well as Daniel said to us the best way to gain experiance is to jump in and enjoy! we will look after you, and he was good to is word. we arrived in Los Roques by plane from Margarita as we combined our fishing trip with a beach holiday.now the first thing you notice when you fly over las roques are the fantastic colours of the sea from the deepest blue to the lightest tourquise lapping on a multitude of islands and beaches,then after a brief circuit of the island your down on the small runway of Gran Roque. checkin is a full 5 mins and that includes luggage collection,then its off to your posada ours was the very relaxed but well placed La Cigala run by enrique, liana and there team. after a warm welcome,quick change and some breakfast we were racing across the sea with the other guests to our own private island for a day of snorkling,beach wandering and relaxation beach chair umbrella and lunch provided. after returning to the posada that evening it was dinner and a few drinks before an introduction to our guide Felipe. then its to bed by 10pm ready for the following days fishing. philippe arrived at 7am prompt checked all our gear then we strolled down to our boat moored on the beach (yes a full 50m away) then we headed off to an area were Felipe kept saying BIG TARPON !. now remember we are novices and have not quite mastered flyfishing on dry land never mind fishing from the front of a boat rolling on the waves in the harbour,but with some good coaching and plenty of encouragement from Felipe plus the sight of big golden tarpon rolling infront of us the nerves eased and we were casting "not pretty "but good enough. then after a few hour its of to the flats and after lunch its casting to bonefish,now as they say practice makes perfect and boy do we need practice ! anyway back to the posada to wash and get ready for dinner as i walked in thats when disaster struck and i lifted my rods into the ceiling fan which promtly cut the tops off all 3, now youve heard the expression (cut the atmosphere with a knife) this was on of those times, it was also one of those times when DONT WORRY WE WILL LOOK AFTER YOU was needed.now las roques isnt the best place to buy tackle so with the help of henrique is tool box some superglue and a multitool repairs were carried out .(the needed beer was supplied by nicholas) but just in case liana had put plan 2in place and had spoken to Felipe who kindly turned up with is own rod to lend us should the repairs not work . the next 2 days came and went so fast with the tarpon promising but not delivering ,but the bonefish and the jacks were very obliging and with plenty of coaching and the patience of a saint fish were landed and smiles recorded and for that we must thant Felipe the guide ,instructor and anchor retriever. all to soon your racing back to your posada for the final evening relaxing .thinking back nothing beats walking down a beach casting to bonefish with the anticipation of a take ! so if your a novice or a pro then jump in and enjoy. so all in all we have a few big thankyous to say ! to Henrique , Liana and there team at la cigala for the warm welcome the relaxed posada (it was like being at home)and for the help when disaster struck. Everything turned out perfect !!!! by: Hugo Fontana - October 10th 2007 Daniel : Estuvo impecable todo , Natalia disfruto su diving a full y yo pesque mas de 40 bonefish en los 3 dia (en los flats e incluso algunos coleando) aparte de tirarle a varios permit , cortar unos Jacks y sacar un par de rubias coleando... Lleve un equipo 6 que disfrute enormemente, con el saque un par de bonefish cercanos a las 8 libras (Chapin dixit) que vaciaron mi Abel por completo. Sabes que me gusta la pesca de bonefish sobre las otras, esto le dio una nueva emoción. La posada estuvo perfecta y estoy esperando ansioso mi próxima visita a Caracas.... Los Roques is such a beautiful place: still unspoiled, with lots of fishing opportunities. Although hard to catch from time to time, the bonefish were plentiful and surprisingly large, on average. The guides were excellent and patient with my somewhat inexperienced fishing partner. And I enjoyed the Posada where we stayed. The staff was attentive, and the meals were varied and tasty. I realy enjoy this kind of small grouping, and I loved the way you hosted the trip. From day one, you treated each of us like a personal friend, and that set the tone for an easygoing, laid-back week. The prizes awarded after dinner each evening for our successes and mishaps was a nice touch. Thanks for turning a potentially disastrous trip into something very special. Although my luggage never arrived, it was hardly missed because of the generosity of you and my fellow anglers. » Los Roques. Kirk and I had a superb time on our trip! by: Mike Kenfield - March 22nd, 2006 Dear Daniel, Kirk and I had a superb time on our trip! Our guide Felipe was one of the best I've ever fished with, working very hard to give us the most variety of experiences. He made my son's first flats fishing trip a huge success. La Cigala was a delight, as were the people who worked there. We found Gran Roque to be a very charming village--friendly, clean and safe. Most of all, we loved the laid-back atmosphere of the islands. The bones were challenging but very good sized and we caught enough to keep us busy. And the tarpon and permit were very tough but exciting! I may well return in the Fall with my girlfriend, ....... How's the weather in October? One practical suggestion--tell your clients that they need cash for most payments there--La Cigala did not accept credit cards... Otherwise, everthing was perfect! » Los Roques - Exceeding Expectations by: Matthew Mottram - October 6th, 2005 We had been to Los Roques before and spent the days negotiating with local fisherman to get us to the flats and spent the nights clearing sand out our tents! This time we vowed to do it in comfort and Fly Fishing Caribe provided exactly what we were looking for. First and foremost, the bone-fishing on both the Los Roques signature pancakes flats and mangrove bordered coral flats was excellent. We fished most mornings for bonefish and each landed between 6-10 fish per day in the 3-6 pound range. We did catch a couple of 7-8 pounders and although great in the photos, I believe the 4-5 lb fish give the best account of themselves. In the afternoons (after a great lunch) we normally changed tactics and targeted either schooling Horse-Eye Jacks or Tarpon. We had success landing several Jack up to 10 lbs and although we all jumped large Tarpon (40-70lb) none were landed - Excluding Daniel who landed a nice 80 pounder and another weighing about 90 pounds! We try not to mention the 10 lb Permit Doug lost too often as the wound is still too raw! The guides, Pedro and Jose, were great. They managed to put us on top of schooling Jack, rolling Tarpon and tailing Bones on a daily basis and that is all we can ask. They provided expertise and help where needed but once our eyes were more accustomed to the colours and shapes, they allowed us to catch our own fish without the constant "strip stop strip stop" that can take the "hunt" out of the sport. After a hard days fishing there is nothing like a relaxing shower and a cold beer to reminisce over. Our Posada - La Cigala - provided both and the meals they produced on a daily basis where outstanding. A big thanks to the crew at La Cigala. We are already planning the next adventure... » Without doubt, Los Roques is a fantastic fishing paradise !!! by: José Rodriguez - August 3rd, 2005 Los Roques, sin duda un paraiso para pescar. Esta fue mi primera experiência con FlyfishingCaribe y fue muy buena, los guias son exelentes. Fueran dos dias de pesca fenomenales, llenos de bonefish. En el primer dia la pesca fue exelente, por la mañana en el primer bajo saque muchos macabies, el primero macabí que saque alli estava comiendo com las aletas fuera de agua... fue de lo mas bello que me paso en la vida!!! Saque algunos mas pero aí perdi unos 4 porque tenia corales y cortaban la linea. Despues fuemos pescar de la playa, saque muchos, eran locos pero un poco dificiles... Al final del dia tenia algunos de 3Kg de peso y muchas fotos!!! >En el segundo dia fuimos pescar peces mas dificiles, en los bajos con algas, buscando enquanto comiam. Fue fenomenal... por la mañana la marea estava muy baja, mismo asi saque algunos aunque vimos muchissimos. Por la tarde fue bien mejor, saque mas algunos y un con 3,5Kg segun el guia, sin duda una experiência inolvidable. » Los Roques (Venezuela) by: Malcom Stoodley - April 8th, 2005 Thanks for all your help in arranging the trip, the fishing was really good. Jose the guide was very good, and his ability to spot fish was unreal, without his skill you would only catch about 10% or less of the fish we caught during the week. I was pleased to see that he would take me on long distance boat runs to the farside of the atoll, to flat he knew would produce,and also flats that had not been fished rescently. I caught about 60 bonefish during the week with the best about 7 lbs with a average of about 3lbs. The last day was really good because I was casting to tailing bonefish, which meant that even I was able to see them. I caught 4 tarpon best about 25 lbs, which took along time to land as the hook was quite small and the fish very strong. Turtles,Stingrays,Barracuda,Sharks and Jacks, were seen everyday , along with the fantastic colours of the sea. The boat rides alone were worth the cost. Other fish caught included small snappers, 4 Jacks about 4lbs each and a needlefish of about 3lbs,which jumped about 20 times. .................Overall though everything was excellent and I will recommend it too my friends Thanks Malcolm Stoodley malcolm.stoodley@ukonline.co.uk

I'll do you a fuller report later. ...."The bonefishing was good although clearly the tides meant that the water was a bit high. We started to do some tarpon fishing on day 3 and that was excellent - over the time we raised 8 good fish, 4 of which got off at the first jump, 1 was landed at 20kgs, and 1 towed us out to sea for over an hour before finally breaking my line at the backing, taking all the fly line with it ! Estimated at 35kgs. Fortunately I had another spare line, and it is certainly good advice to make sure you do have spare lines! Had one afternoon for Permit which was a great bonus, managed to cast at about 5 of them with no success, but I could see what all the excitement was about. Many many thanks for organising, the trip exceeded my expectations which were already very high and I would certainly look in the future to fish with your company again..."
