View package view rates View reports View testimonials
» General Information:
Located in the province of Santa Cruz, Strobel Lake (or Jurassic Lake) is 115 km from Gobernador Gregores city and about 450 km from El Calafate city. The lake covers 11,000 hectares and is fed by the waters of the river Barrancoso, which is born in the west, a bit further than Mount Dos Cuernos. The lake lies 900 metres above sea level. The surrounding area is desert, with very little vegetation and covered by volcanic rock. There is a dozen of lagoons of different depths known as "the chained", which are isolated in summer but join in winter. These lagoons are home to a great number of rainbow trout weighing up to 8 pounds, with an average weight of 4 pounds. The Stroble lake might be one of the destinations holding the biggest rainbows in the world (up to 26lbs.). The Lodge is located in the south coast of the Lake in a typical "Estancia House" with all the conforts (WiFi, Satellite TV, laudry, cheff, etc.), and offer the option to fish in the Jurassic Lake or in the amazing Barrancoso river (only tributary of the lake) with 8 Km running inside the property, and 15 lagoons and other lakes also, to fish huge rainbows.

» Package:
The package consists of 7 nights and 6 fishing days.
Day 1: Reception at the airport in El Calafate and transfer to the Lodge (approx. 6/7 hours). Accommodation in the Lodge and fishing in the lake until 9:30 pm.
Day 2-3-4-5 and 6: Fishing in different spots over 10 km cost of the Jurassic lake, or fish in the Barrancoso river, or any of the other lakes and lagoons in the property.
Day 7: Fishing in the morning and after lunch transfer to El Calafate. Accommodation in a 4* Hotel.

» Accommodation:
In El Calafate the the package includes accommodation in a 4* Hotel . In the Jurassic Lake, the package includes accommodation in the refurbished and well decorated Lodge with 3 comfortable double bedrooms with capacity for 6 anglers, private bathroom, hot water, a good living room with LCD TV, DVD, WiFi and free Internet for the guest, very good cheff and helpers and a lodge manager. The lodge offer 2 drift boats for calm days. All the guides are bilingual and qualify. 4 x 4 trucks.

» Tackle and Equipment:
The best rod to fish the Jurassic Lake is a 7 Wt 9-foot rod with Intermediate line. The reels should hold at least 100 yards 20-pound backing. On the days that are not windy, a 6 Wt or 5Wt can be used, with floating line and dry fly.
Flies: Orange, brown, olive streamers tied on hook #4 to #8 and nymphs on hook #4 to #14. Legged dry flies (such as Chernobil, Madam X, etc) have proved very effective in the days with no wind.
Leaders: The trout are not spooked away by the leader, so we recommend a shock tippet of 10 pounds minimum.

» Additional Information:
The climate in this region of the Patagonia is unpredictable and usually very windy, so we suggest bringing warm clothes. To organize transfers, we suggest traveling to El Calafate one day in advance and return one day after the stay at the Jurassic lake.
